Bing! the new google

In case you missed it, June 3rd was first live show broadcast hosted by the internet’s own Olivia Munn to promote Microsoft’s new search engine: Bing.
Bing? At first, I was a little skeptical. I’ve never used anything but Google. But Bing is very different than Google- in a good way. I would go on a huge rant and tell you how cool and different it is than Google, but I’d rather you go check it yourself! I will however, point out a few cool features:

If you go to video, when you scroll over the videos you can preview the video before wasting time and visiting the page with the video.

For images, you can scroll your mouse over and it will give you all the information about the image from it’s size to where it’s located.

Searches are easier now because you can narrow down your search: if you type in windmill, the options to the left let you FILTER through windmills! what type, color, location, etc.

There are many more features to be discovered so go check it out!
bing is the new google. internet is the new tv.

Awesome and Free : Fashion156.com

Between televisions, computers and cell phones, a study conducted by Ball State University’s Center for Media Design (CMD) and Sequent Partners for the Nielsen-funded Council for Research Excellence (CRE) found that Americans spend over 8 hours per day in front of screens. It seems almost inevitable online magazines will be the new oracle of what we know as publishing. I know you might be suspicious of online magazines: many have all but friendly user interfaces who’s content is anything but cohesive or tangible. But once you start to filter out the bad photography and the over-the-top font choices, there are two online magazines I think you should watch as this growing trend emerges among a new digital generation.

Foremost is Fashion156.com. Based out of London, 156s content is strictly based on fashion, style, grooming and beauty. The magazine took a simple approach to it’s interface with clean lines and simple galleries to allow for maximum user friendliness. With a new issue out every 12 days, you will always be aware of the latest trends before they make ink. Cutting edge photography and features on hottest beauty products, I see Fashion156 as being a leader in this new era of digital magazines.

Their latest issue “The Nude Issue”

I also find myself staring at the screen for hours sweeping the digital pages of IN*TANDEM. IN* TANDEM took another approach to it’s interface: Simple yet sophisticated. The user truly experiences the “magazine” feel by dragging the corner of the pages with your mouse like a real magazine. Within the pages is a media whirlwind: interactive pages with video and music on some pages. Also opposite Fashion156, IT encompasses a much broader audience. They feature not only fashion, but art, culture, music, current events and pretty much everything else you can imagine 50+ contributers can contrive; the “Engine” is what the Editor-in-Chief Gabriel Magdaleno calls it on the website. With it’s first issue released this January, the magazine is currently on it’s 3rd issue, releasing a new one every thirty days or so. This is what we’ve been waiting for.
